How did you get started at CrossFit Hügelland?
I have always liked to workout whenever I could, and I knew about CrossFit because my mom used to do it when I was little, and my grandma (Rhonda) and my uncle (Aaron) would always be at Crossfit Hügelland. I didn’t give CrossFit much thought because I believed it was for more “advanced” athletes.
One day at a family dinner, my grandma and cousin were discussing which class they would go to the next day. They asked me to go with them and I said why not. I went to the 5:30 a.m CrossFit class with them the next day and I immediately fell in love.
I loved the intensity of it that regular sports were lacking. After that, I started going twice a week, which quickly turned into six times a week.
What progress have you made since joining Hügelland?
As a high school student, the only working out that I did was through my sports, mainly track. The practices were not giving me the “challenge” aspect of working out and I was getting bored. Before CrossFit, I was just at an average level of fitness, but I knew I had more potential.
I didn’t have any specific goals or workouts planned and I was looking for a community to keep me motivated. Mentally, I wasn’t that tough and never fully challenged myself. Emotionally I felt bored and unmotivated.
Since joining CrossFit Hügelland, I have changed so much for the better. If you compared me now, to me a year ago , you would see two completely different people.
Not only have I mastered many staple CrossFit moves like toes to bar, double unders, and wall walks, but I am so much stronger overall. I used to not even be able to do a single push up or pull up without scaling. Now, I can do large sets of both push-ups and pull-ups with no scaling whatsoever. I have gained a significant amount of muscle and I focus on nutrition more than I ever have so that I can feel my best during workouts.
Mentally and emotionally, I am so much more confident and willing to challenge myself more than before. I discovered how far determination can go and what real competitiveness feels like.
I am most proud of my ability to step out of my comfort zone to get better.
What do you enjoy most about CrossFit Hügelland?
The constant goal to be the healthiest version of myself and the wonderful community of Crossfit Hügelland are what keep me coming back. I have learned so many valuable lessons through CrossFit that I am so thankful for. I have met so many amazing athletes through Hugelland who inspire me every day. Crossfit Hugelland has become my second home and I couldn’t imagine my life without it now!
