Coach, Matt Averill
Matt was born and raised in northern Michigan where he lived an outdoors, adventure-led lifestyle. His passion for sports and fitness has defined his every move since, including being a multi-sport High School athlete and attending universities in Montana and Wyoming due to their proximity to the snowboarding and rugged outdoor activities. After graduating with a PhD in Geophysics, Matt relocated to Houston for career and travel opportunities. In Houston, he was blessed with the opportunity to meet, travel and settle with his wife Heather.
In his early 30’s Matt was treated for significant lower back pain - a relic from his highly active football and snowboarding years. He was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and recommended for back surgery. Instead, Matt found crossfit in 2008, declined the surgery and opted to strengthen and improve movement through CrossFit. Over the next 15 years Matt has acquired L1 and L2 as well as Olympic and aerobic capacity training certificates. He has developed a passion for coaching Olympic barbell movements and passing on his love for learning and growing through fitness.
Matt, Heather and their 3 young children relocated to Fredericksburg in 2021 in pursuit of a more relaxed, small community, nature-led lifestyle.
